I would like to begin by acknowledging that I am speaking to you from the traditional and unceded territory of the Musqueam people.
This will be my final update for the year 2020. And what a year it has been!
It’s traditional at this time of year for many people to put together their holiday wish list for Santa. Well, this week, it’s Santa’s turn to share my wish list.
For all UBC students, I wish you success in your exams, and safe journeys if you are travelling home for the holidays.
For faculty and staff, I wish you a peaceful and restful holiday season. And I thank you for your hard work this year.
For all the members of the UBC community, I wish you all a joyous holiday and a happy and prosperous New Year.
And now for my weekly shoutout to one of UBC’s unsung heroes. Today, I’d like to recognize Faculty of Forestry Research Scientist Jacqui Sunderland-Groves.
Jacqui has worked in West-Central Africa and Asia since 1995, specializing in great ape ecology and conservation related research, reintroduction and management of complex conservation programs.
There are many reasons why Jacqui should be acknowledged, such as how she takes to care to work with local peoples, her conservation efforts and her work with young and emerging scientists. Jacqui, UBC is proud of you.
