Universities across Canada will join together in a moment of silence to recognize those lost and affected by the crash of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752.
I ask that students, faculty and staff please pause and remember the victims, and consider the impact the impact on their families, loved ones and communities across the country at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15.
As you may know, many universities across Canada, including UBC, are grieving deaths of students, faculty and staff in the tragedy.
UBC is mourning the deaths of alumna Niloofar Razzaghi who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Math in May, 2010 and a Bachelor of Education in November, 2018.
Dr. Mehran Abtahi was also killed. Dr. Abtahi came to the university in October, 2019 as a postdoctoral research fellow in the department of civil engineering.
We also grieve the losses of Zeynab Asadi Lari and Mohammadhossein Asadi Lari. Zeynab enrolled at UBC in 2016 in the BSc program, with a biology major. Mohammadhossein graduated in 2018 with a BSc in cellular, anatomical and physiological sciences with honours standing.
We understand the scale of this tragedy is having a profound impact on many in our community and I encourage those who need support to look to the links below for assistance.
